Amazon.com, the online retailer, said Wednesday it will begin selling cars online through its new platform, Amazon Cars.
The move comes as the world’s biggest online retailer works to compete with the likes of Google and other technology companies.
ikeos chief executive officer Brian Chesky said the company has already been sold 1.5 million cars.
We expect that to grow to 2 million in the coming years, which is our target, he said at a conference call with analysts.
IKEA cars are available for purchase through the platform.
The platform, which was launched last year, allows for the sharing of information between customers and other sellers, like the ability to add and delete cars, among other features.
In addition to cars, the platform will allow consumers to purchase items like furniture, bedding and other personal goods, Chesky told analysts.
The company has previously announced plans to sell cars through its Amazon App store, and is working on an Amazon Store app.
Its stock rose 3.5% in early trading on Wednesday, to $15.89 per share.
