More than thirty cars are now being sold at discounted prices in Melbourne.
The car market is one of the most profitable in the country, and the average price for a vehicle in Melbourne has been trending down in recent years, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
As part of the sale, the car buyer can pick up a pre-owned car for a small amount of money, or receive a car that was bought in a dealership.
In other cities, buyers are being offered a free ride to a dealership if they don’t want to pay the usual $4,000 deposit.
Melbourne is the fourth-most expensive city in Australia, according the ABS, with average prices for cars falling from $18,600 to $18.40 per kilometre in the past year.
However, that number is down from $22,000 a year ago, when cars were selling for up to $27,000.
The biggest decline in the number of vehicles sold was in the CBD, where prices have dropped by more than 50 per cent over the past five years.
It is not the first time the Melbourne CBD has seen an uptick in car sales, with car buyers in Sydney and Brisbane also buying in droves.
